District council seeks developers for Flax

NEWS

Hastings District Council is calling for expressions of interest from developers to build housing on three blocks of Flaxmere land. Tarbet St, 244 Flaxmere Ave, a section of council-owned land in the Flaxmere Town Centre and 72 Caernavron Drive have all been identified as council-owned land to be developed for housing. There are already houses under way at Tarbet St, and now the design and delivery of three-waters services, roads, footpaths and amenity spaces are being designed for the other three sites. This is expected to be completed at Flaxmere Ave next May and in the town centre and Caernarvon Drive by the end of 2022. Hastings mayor Sandra Hazlehurst said the developments were part of the Hastings Place Based housing plan and the medium to long-term housing strategy. The developments would be a mix of one-to-four-bedroom homes that follow best practice design principles, are sustainable, had private outdoor spaces, appropriate garaging and are energy efficient. The council has put out the call for developers with the necessary track record, experience, capability and capacity to submit formal proposals to build the houses. The expression of interest is phase 1 of the two-phase process and detailed proposals from shortlisted developers will be called over the coming months. When deciding who would carry out the work, emphasis will be put on selecting candidates who are committed to working in partnership with the council to meet quality and sustainability objectives, as well as supporting local upskilling and employment. This contract was advertised on the open market via the NZ Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) on July 14 and Expressions of Interest close on August 11.
